Item #2 - Two Great Sauternes deVine Wines and Spirits deVine Wines and Spirits

Two half bottles of the famous dessert wines from Sauternes, France, both of which merited 96 points from famous wine critics. The 2003 Chateau Rieussec and the 2001 Chateau Guiraud. The Rieussec is drinking excellently at the moment, while the Guiraud from perhaps the greatest vintage ever in the region needs a few more years. Pair with a fresh fruit flan or trifle and it will be a splendid way to end any meal.

2003 Chateau Rieussec - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (96 points) - Great definition/delineation so essential in this creamy, creme brulee, and honeysuckle-flavored offerings. From a highly regard vintage, this appears to be somewhat in the style of the 1990s, with high levels of residual sugar (higher than 2001 for the most part) as well as botrytis, low acidity, and fat, full-bodied personality. The harvest began extremely early (early September), and was completely finished within three weeks. Big, rich and juicy. Voluptuous, with aromas of caramel, apple and light tropical fruit. Full-bodied, round and very sweet, with loads of ripe fruit and a long butterscotch and piecrust aftertaste. Viscous texture. Hard not to drink it now. A wonderful sticky.

2001 Chateau Guiraud - James Suckling, Wine Spectator (96 points) - Golden yellow. Butterscotch and vanilla, with hints of ripe apples. Full-bodied, with lots of sweetness and a spicy apricot and honey aftertaste. Excellent concentration and balance. Loads of botrytis character on the finish. Intense. Hard not to drink now because it's so luscious and rich. Best after 2008. 11,665 cases made.

Item #8 - A Trio of Vintage Ports deVine Wines and Spirits

Ports in the late 1990's are now getting hard to find. Here is a trio that you can drink now (with a 4-6 hour decant) or cellar for an additiional 5-10 years. The ready to drink 1994 Delaforce hails from the great 1994 vintage, one of the very best vintages in the last half century. The 1997 Dow's is a lovely slightly drier style of port from one of the great houses who has had a tremendous run over the last two decades. Finally, the 1997 Quinta do Noval Silval has a vibrant and exuberant personality that is great for those who look for a little more forward fruit.
