2009 Wine - Red Château Léoville Barton

2009 Château Léoville Barton (Bordeaux - St. Julien, France)
Wine - Red $219.99 (750mL)

One of the most admired estates in all of Bordeaux, the Second Growth Leoville Barton has a tremendous record of great wines over the last 15 years. It is one of the most ageworthy Bordeaux around and lives up to its super second status. Owner Anthony Barton has done wonders with this estate, producing one of Bordeaux's most ageworthy wines. The 2009 is no exception and really should be purchased by the young or for the next generation. Many collectors buy this wine every year without fail, it is so consistent. Very limited availability.

Rating: 96

Very floral, with fresh mushrooms and currants on the nose. Full body, with powerful tannins, yet polished and refined. Lovely length. Vibrant acidity. Well structured. Try after 2018.

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator

Rating: 95

This is powerful Cabernet, with gutsy weight, but polished feel to the fresh plum, warm blackberry sauce, bittersweet ganache and roasted apple wood notes. Long and tarry through the finish, but still invigorating despite its heft. Will need some time to round fully into form. Best from 2017 through 2035. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 21,000 cases made. Wine Spectator's #6 Wine of the Year for 2012.

Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate

Rating: 94

Tasted at the Union de Grand Cru in London. The Leoville Barton 2009 has more intensity and complexity on the nose than the Langoa, with hints of cedar and cigar box in the background. Mellow and natural. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, great weight and composure in the mouth with a supple, rounded, tobacco-tinged finish that lingers seductively. Tasted October 2011.
