2010 Wine - Red Château La Lagune

2010 Château La Lagune (Bordeaux - Haut-Médoc, France)
Wine - Red $161.99 (750mL)

There are only five estates that are ranked in the famous 1855 Bordeaux Classification which does not reside within the famous communes of St. Estephe, St. Julien, Margaux, Pauillac (and Pessac-Leognan). The most famous and highest ranked of these is La Lagune, a Third Growth, this southernmost classed growth estate of all the Medoc has been famous for being a very good source of excellent wines over the years. Consistent and attractively priced, it has stepped up big time this last decade after a period of relative mediocrity in the 90's. The wine has put on weight in recent years, whereas before it was more restrained Burgundian in its medium-bodied style.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Rating: 94

Another great success from proprietress Caroline Frey, the 2010 La Lagune provides an essential drinking experience, with notes of Asian plum sauce, mulberries, kirsch liqueur and black currants. The wine also exhibits a savory, rich smokiness and subtle lead pencil shaving notes. Full-bodied and pure, combining both elegance and power, this is a brilliant, very approachable effort that should hit its stride in 5-7 years and last for at least two decades. Think of it as a hypothetical blend of the 2005 and 2009. Kudos!
