2006 Rivera Cappellaccio Riserva Aglianico (Puglia, Italy)
Wine - Red $19.99 (750ml)
From one of the leading producers of the DOC of Castel del Monte region in Puglia, we have a deep jeweled ruby toned red, this well-crafted wine is produced from one of Italy's lesser known noble varietals - Aglianico, aged 12 months in French oak and a further 12 in bottle. The name "cappellaccio" refers to the hard layer that is formed at 30-40cm below the soil surface by the eroision of limestone over the centuries. Perfumed with spicy floral and herbal aromas, ripe plum, berry fruit and earthy tones, the wine is robust and well structured. Dry, medium-full bodied, the succulent berry fruit is matched with fresh acidity and firm tannins that underline the lengthy dry finish. Red meats are in order for a pairing (decant 3/4 hour), or cellar long term, as there's lots of life in this wine!
