Over the years, the association has grown from a single youth choir to a family of four choirs, with each choir focusing on bringing spirit and artistic integrity to their performances. The choirs are known for their unique style of presentation, which combines high quality musical delivery and artistic staging. A diverse and global repertoire is the basis of each choir's program, singing music ranging from canonical classical repertoire to experimental and avant-garde contemporary works. The association also has a long history of performing African music, culminating in the relationships built during the choir's tours southern Africa in the summer of 2004, and most recently in the summer of 2007. These unique connections and the music they bring have been very well received by Canadian audiences. Kokopelli and Oran have enjoyed singing a number of programs with the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra over the past several seasons. He received his formal training in glass at the Alberta College of Art + Design in Calgary in 1992 and Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Washington. Attracting international attention, Darren is best known for breathtaking contemporary versions of classic Venetian glass forms. It is the creative process that matters to him most, not how the outcome is defined or categorized. Glassmaking starts with raw molten materials and an idea, from there you physically make something.

"I think that creativity is something which virtually everyone has a capacity for. Being creative is not just a career choice, it is a way of life and a constant exploration of self." Darren is also a proud regionalist. He grew up in Alberta, "close to the land and wild things", and feels this landscape has a very strong influence on the objects he creates. He is an avid outdoorsman, spending summers fly fishing, photographing and wading along foothills and prairie rivers.

Item #32 - A Magnum of 2007 Chateau de Beaucastel deVine Wines and Spirits

A 1.5 Litre magnum of the legendary Chateau de Beaucastel from the great 2007 vintage. This Chateauneuf-du-Pape producer from the South Rhone is recognized amongst the greatest estates in the entire world. Organically certified and ageworthy, this is a future legend that should be laid down in a cool cellar for a decade and then brought out for that very special occasion with lots of company. Big bottle formats of Beaucastel are very rare and precious.

Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate (96 points) - Beaucastel's 2007 Chateauneuf du Pape has turned out even better out of bottle than I predicted. An inky/ruby/purple color is followed by a glorious nose of blue and black fruits, truffles, pen ink, licorice, and meat juices as well as glorious levels of acidity and sweet tannin, buttressing the fruit's fabulous freshness and vibrancy. This full-bodied effort still displays considerable tannin, no doubt because of the relatively high Mourvedre content. It should resolve its tannins in 2-4 years, and last for 25 or more.

James Molesworth, Wine Spectator (96 points) - This extremely dense red delivers layers of melted fig, mulled boysenberry and black currant fruit, all laced with notes of charred mesquite, hoisin sauce and Kenya AA coffee. The long, silky mouthfeel belies the latent power in reserve - and there's a lot of it, with waves of grip driving the finish. Best from 2010 through 2030.

Item #37 - "Always Dance and Laugh... Always"
    by Jerry Whitehead
deVine Wines and Spirits deVine Wines and Spirits

Jerry Whitehead was born on February 24, 1957 in Kinistino Saskatchewan. He is from the Cree nation and a member of the James Smith band. The first drawings he can remember doing were on grocery sacks with the tip of a 22-caliber bullet. He was 5 years old. Jerry's first introduction to vibrant color was through his mother. Jerry: "she braided brightly colored rugs when I was growing up. They always made me feel comfortable....the vibrant color made you feel like you were floating....separate, yet together."

As a child in Saskatchewan, Whitehead says he was interested in art like any of his friends. He says, "I used to draw as a kid. I used to draw all the time." Unlike the average kid, he used almost any source he could find for his drawings including the ashes that remained from fires and the lead in the bullets his father used as a hunter.

Jerry has always been a serious student of art. He is a graduate from the university of Regina and the Nova Scotia School of Art and Design with a B.A. and a Bachelor of Fine Arts respectively. His 8 years of formal training are evident in his use of color, movement and control of his compositions.

Upon completing his formal training, Whitehead began showing his work in exhibitions across the country. In the years since, he has had numerous shows in Saskatchewan, Ontario, Nova Scotia and British Columbia. His work has been commissioned by University Hospital in Saskatoon and the Summer Pops Symphony at Cable Wharf in Halifax to name but two. Whitehead says that his style has changed over the years. "I went through a lot of different stages," he says. In the beginning, Whitehead did beadwork and attached the work to his paintings. He also says that, for a while, he used to wrinkle his canvas to give his paintings a dimensional appearance.

The one thing that has remained constant throughout this progression is his focus on powwows and powwow dancers. "Powwow dancers have been an ongoing theme in my work since I began painting. Seeing the dancers as a child had a lasting impression. The subject matter has been ideal for expressing a part of my culture as well as accommodating changes in my work," says the artist from the Peter Chapman First Nation.

This piece is acrylic on canvas, 55 x 64 inches.

Item #40 - Mindy Andrews Espresso Set deVine Wines and Spirits deVine Wines and Spirits

    Mindy Andrews:
My strong connection with nature has always played an important role in my art. Having grown up in the idyllic setting of the Lake of the Woods area of northwestern Ontario, I have been able to reach a deep understanding of my naturalistic environment.

The functional works I produce are inspired by the physicality of nature. This includes motifs such as shapes of leaves and the texture of bark. I incorporate these motifs in a concrete fashion by carving and stamping their images into my work. The shape of the forms I create also relate to natural objects. For example, the roundness of a teapot or a tea caddy may echo river-tumbled stones; the slight alteration of a teacup and saucer may reflect a lily nestled in a lily pad. I integrate these ideas into the firing process; effects such as blushing to create natural designs on my work are attained by salt firing.

My connection with nature is what keeps me balanced and I strongly believe that if my life is centered then I will be able to produce strong, confident forms. Much of my work also reflects the ideals of Asian aesthetics and the purity of form. In eastern cultures, I see a strong connection between philosophy and the object being created.

Aaron Janzen is an Edmonton grown designer who got his start at a very early age. "My obsession with fashion is just as bad as when I leave the milk on the counter before going to work. It all started at 15 years old making burlap shaped gowns, and showing them at camp fYrefly. I've always wanted to make people feel good about themselves and to express my feelings throughout every stitch I sew into a garment." The samples he makes today show just how much he's grown over the years. Now close to turning 21, Aaron plans to work towards a university education, possibly in design. The possibilities are endless in this art, he says. I just hope I don't run out of fabric. The dress is a size 2-3 with 34 bust 28 waist 34 hip - it is made for a unique, fabulous body!

Item #50 - Stoneware Clay Pottery by Anna Rasmussen deVine Wines and Spirits

While studying at business college Anna Rasmussen decided to take a community education pottery course and was hooked. She currently lives on a farm in central Alberta with her husband and owns the Gammel House Gallery and Pottery Studio in Dickson. She has also pursued more experience and education through Red Deer College, Series, and now the Australian Residency Program.

Today, Anna's work is about form, function and colour. She enjoys making pots that people use in their every day lives. She feels that in modern society where everything is mass-produced it is nice to take home a piece that has the human touch. Anna fires her pottery using a gas kiln and enjoys working with reduction glazes. Her biggest influences in decoration come from the surrounding environment.

All of Anna's work is handcrafted from high quality stoneware clays. Each piece is original and made with lead-free and food safe glazes. This pottery can be used in the oven, microwave and freezer, but should not be taken from the freezer or fridge to the hot oven. While in the oven the bottom surface of larger pieces should be kept covered with either food or liquid to maintain an even heat. Pottery can also go in the dishwasher, and with care will give you many years of service and pleasure.

Item #51 - Dom Perignon Andy Warhol Series deVine Wines and Spirits deVine Wines and Spirits

Here is your chance to own a piece of champagne and art history! The Warhol Foundation has given permission for Dom Perignon to specially bottle a limited number of Andy Warhol labels and boxes. This is a significant moment as it is the very first time that Dom Perignon has allowed an outside influence to alter their label. Not only are these bottles a work of art in themselves, they are housing the yet to be released 2002 vintage Dom Perignon! Containing more Chardonnay than Pinot Noir (the balance is usually somewhere nearer 50/50), the wine has real elegance and finesse, with great length for a Champagne. This really is a stunning wine, with an amazingly silky smooth mouth feel, well integrated fine bubbles and a wonderfully long finish. A Champagne legend in the making! Wine Spectator scored it 96 points.
