Our online feature this week is the 2020 Bodegas Colome Lote Tannat (Calchaqui Valley, Argentina) – $31.49 (regularly $37.99).
Bodegas Colome are an exquisite representation of the unique weather and desert conditions in northwest Argentina’s Calchaqui Valley in Salta, Argentina, situated high – 200 miles from the border of Bolivia. The plantings are in high elevation (over 5000 feet above sea level), one of the highest around which allows for ripe grape-growing from the intense sun during the daytime and cool nights which results in concentrated fruit expression with bright acidity, a lingering mouthfeel and very fine balance.
Although the origin of the Tannat grape is South-West France in Madiran, it has become an emblematic variety of the CalchaquĆ Valleys and also in Uruguay (where it is a lighter version). Our Feature Tannat this week is anything but, Its colour is dark, almost black. and has a floral nose with notes of luminious black fruit, concentrated, spicy and elegant. Decant for a half hour and pair with red meats.
