Our online feature this week is the Gres Saint Paul Romanis (Languedoc-Roussillon, France) – $19.99 , regularly $23.99.

Gres Saint Paul – during the Middle Ages a small church was erected along the antique Dominitian Way between Nîmes and Montpellier in the heart of Languedoc Roussillon wine region and named Saint Paul de Cabrières. Today, it is known as Château Grès Saint Paul. Built on the ruins, this 24 hectare estate is run by the Serviere Family (since 1830), the vineyards is on a plateau bordering the Mediterranean Sea and over looking the Camargue and l’Etang de l’Or (the famous Golden Lagoon in southern France).

Our feature this week is their Romanis Red – a fruity wine with hints of earth, spice and garrigue (blackcurrant bud, thyme, rosemary and beetroot). The palate is fresh, unctuous, all wrapped in silky tannins. This terroir driven value red exudes a very beautiful harmony because of its extreme finesse and balance. Finishes nicely with a hint of game. Try with a slow braised provencal beef stew.

Gres Saint Paul Romanis (Languedoc-Roussillon, France) – $19.99 , regularly $23.99.

The influence of the church in wine has been well documented over the centuries, so for a special Easter weekend treat, we’re doing a Papal tasting to celebrate.

Both white and red Chateaueuf du Papes will be tasted, as well as wines from Basilicata, the Purple Angel Carmenere from Chile, and other wines related to the church.

Wines related to the last two Popes will be presented, and while themes and connections may not obvious from the list of wines, they’re there and you’ll have to attend to find out what they are! Only 18 seats available for this sit-down event.

Please Help Us Help Others

deVine Wines & Spirits, participating 104th-St. merchants and condominium residents plan to extend a helping hand to those less fortunate on Dec 17. We are collecting winter wear on behalf of the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society through our community “Share the Warmth” clothing drive. If you have any new or clean second hand coats, sweaters, hats, toques, mittens, gloves or socks, please drop them off at deVine Wines. To learn more about our neighbor and charity of choice, please visit the Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society on their Facebook page at https://goo.gl/38ZfLQ... Please also visit their website at http://www.eerss.org.

A collection bin will be available at deVine Wines to drop off your winter wear donations very shortly. Other collections bins will be placed in condo lobbies and select stores.

On Dec 17, a bin will also be set up in the pocket park located between the alleyway behind Sobeys and the Icon I Tower between 5 pm and 8 pm. The Edmonton Emergency Relief Services Society will redistribute all donated items to those in need.

On Dec 17, customers can enjoy free tastings between 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM while they shop. Great wines and premium spirits can be sampled while you browse.

Customers will also have an opportunity to enter to win a free gift basket of wine when you visit us during the month of December. The draw will be made at the close of business on December 17, 2015. No purchase is necessary to enter the draw but you must be of legal drinking age.
