In light of Covid-19, all events at deVine’s for March and April have been either postponed or cancelled. We will post alternate dates for postponed events asap.

The 2nd Sudsy Soiree in Support of the Alzheimer Society event is postponed, but it will be a go at a future yet-to-be-determined date. The Henry of Pelham tasting with owner Paul Speck is unfortunately cancelled. Refunds or transfers to another event or credits will be offered to all registrants.

With isolation protocols becoming more and more common, we remind you that our website is updated nightly to reflect current inventory levels so you can easily shop on line. Existing delivery services and charges apply. You can also shop online and give the store a ring when you’re in near the store and we’ll bring out your products (you show photo-id) and drop it in your trunk and off you go.

In other news, we will be having some odorless Everclear 190 Proof 95% Neurtral Grain Spirit that will be arriving in the store this coming Wednesday – this is for making your own hand sanitizer and disinfectant and will be available in 50mL, 200mL and 750mL formats. Numerous recipes are available online.

Finally, an exciting arrival Wednesday will be the buzzy White Claw Hard Seltzers from the US, made from a blend of seltzer water, gluten free spirit base, and a hint of natural fruit flavour. With 100 calories, 1g carbs per 355mL serving and 5% alc./vol., we have been getting many asks about this new arrival so grab yours early.

Take care of yourselves everyone!

A Tasting with Paul Speck of Henry of Pelham – Cancelled

Filed under: deVine's Daily Blog Article — Dirk @ 1:23 pm

Update – Friday, March 13 – In light of Covid-19, Paul Speck has cancelled his visit to Edmonton, thus the scheduled tasting at deVines on Tuesday, April 7th is now also cancelled.

The land that Henry of Pelham Winery sits on dates back to 1794. An inn and tavern was built on this site in 1842 and the tavern’s liquor license was signed “Henry of Pelham” as a joking reference to a past British prime minister, Sir Henry Pelham. The name stuck. Paul Speck Sr. purchased the estate in 1982. Paul Speck Jr. becomes president in 1988 and helps to found the VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) with a handful of other Niagara wineries.

The 300 acre estate is located in the Short Hills Bench sub-appellation of the Niagara Peninsula. Renown for its Baco Noir, a defacto Canadian classic and a Henry of Pelham classic, which will be featured prominently in the upcoming tasting with Paul Speck Jr. Do not miss this – its on Tuesday, April 7 @ 7pm – $30, its been 14 years since he last did an event at deVines and we are thrilled to have him. The thought of a 3 bottle Baco Noir faceoff is so enticing!

Louis Jadot with Philibert de Vregille

deVine welcomes Philibert de Vregille of Maison Jadot for a sit-down tasting on Monday, March 2 at 7pm.

Maison Louis Jadot is a winery that was founded by Louis Henry Denis Jadot in 1859. The first vineyard bought by the Jadot family is the now famous Beaune Monopole vineyard, Clos des Ursules, in 1826. The family wine company not only produces their own wines, but also markets Burgundy wine. It operates both its own vineyards and buys grapes from other growers. It controls 270 hectares (670 acres) of vineyards in Burgundy (including Beaujolais Crus), all of which are AOC denominated wines, making them one of the most significant negotiants in the region.

Monsieur de Vregille is the Export Director for USA, Canada and several other European countries. He will lead us through a couple of white Burgs, a Beaujolais Cru and several of the Premier Cru’s from the very small but exquisite 2016 vintage. This is a must for those who want to delve into the mystery that is Burgundy with this venerable old house! Pinot Noir at its best!
