Montsant’s Cellar Masroig (“red farm”) co-op was founded in 1918, and today is a fine example of how a co-operative could and should be ran. Located near Barcelona in NE Spain, this wine is made from the Samso (Carignan) grape grown over red clay and limestone, and fermented in stainless to preserve freshness. The Mediterranean climate and continental influences, with dry summers, poor soil fertility of terrain and mountainous landscape all leave their mark on this lovely wine. This lighter red offers lifted red currant, raspberry, wild plum across a light palate, with finely grippy tannins, and a touch of mineral salinity. Chill slightly and enjoy all summer long.
