Our special this week is the 2022 Poplar Grove Rosé (Okanagan, B.C.) – $21.99, regularly $26.99.

Founded in 1993, Poplar Grove Winery is one of the original five wineries on the Naramata Bench in Pentiction, B.C. Tony and Barb Holler purchased the winery in 2007. Their sons, Chris, Andrew, Matthew, and Eric farm more than 140 acres of their estate vineyards with care and dedication. The family is widely recognized for crafting genuine wines with a commitment to revealing the character and richness of the Okanagan Valley. The wines are estate grown, locally farmed and family owned.

Our weekly feature is their Rosé, very appropriate for Canada Day. It is composed of 46% Malbec, 32% Merlot, 11% Cabernet franc, 6% Pinot Noir, 4% Syrah, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon – each varietal was kept separate. The extracted juice from the crushed grapes was left on skins for four hours, then cold settled and fermented at 15 °C to preserve the bright fruit flavours. The yeast consumed most of the grape sugars leaving 1.0 g/l and yielding a wonderfully complex dry rosé.

Medium light rose petal pink. Aromas of fresh raspberries, strawberries, rhubarb and apricot combine with an enticing hint of blood orange. A robust palate of ripe nectarines and cantaloupe is well-balanced with delicate citrus notes. Enjoy as a light, fresh opener to an evening or as a stand-alone aperitif.

Happy Canada Day week everyone!
