Château La Rode is situated in the village of Saint-Philippe d’Aiguilhe, on the slopes of Castillon la Bataille close to Saint-Emilion 50km northeast of Bordeaux city. This family owned estate has over 20 hectares under vine primarily planted in Merlot.The property is certified organic since 2012 and has been owned by the same family since 1963. Managed by Christine Faux. the estate was certified organic in 2012.
Our feature this week, their 2015 Château La Rode Castillon-Côtes de Bordeaux is made from a blend of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon harvested from 30 year old vines. In its prime drinking window now and hailing from the great 2015 vintage, the tannins have resolved and everything is well integrated now. Deep garnet in hue, on the nose it unveils bountiful aromas of lush black plums, blackberries, black cherry compote, and some bay leaf. The palate is medium bodied with balanced tannins and generous black fruit flavours. A luscious finish lingers on the palate. A good pairing for grilled steak or lambchops. Steal of a deal for ready to drink Bordeaux!
