Our online feature this week is the 2021 Guy Saget Vouvray (Loire Valley, France) – $19.99 , regularly $22.49.
In the picturesque Pouilly-sur-Loire, the Saget family has been practicing the art of fine winemaking for eight generations now. At the Domaine Guy Saget Winery, the wines are fermented traditionally which is how they manage to give the wines their own personality and represent the full potential of the Loire Valley wine region. Today, the family cultivates a total of 240 hectares of vines, distributed over several different terroirs. The winery, whose roots date back to 1790, is now run by Jean-Louis Saget and his sons Laurent and Arnaud.
Our feature this week is their Vouvray, made with the intention of unravelling the extreme complexity associated with the Loire Valley vineyards. This is a very nice Chenin Blanc, with stone fruit and honey tones that is fermented traditionally. The decision to forego oak ageing stems from a desire to fully reveal the potential of these Loire wines. This well-made wine will be superb with vegetarian dishes, or chicken baked with carrots.
