The history books mention Château Puybarbe as far back as the 15th century. It is a 41 hectare historic wine-producing estate located in Mombrier, in the Côtes de Bourg appellation of Bordeaux, France. Situated on one of the highest elevation hillsides directly east of the Gironde Estuary across from the Margaux appellation, their philosophy is to produce well-balanced wines that express their terroir mixing tradition and modernity. The Cotes-de-Bourg region is situated 35 km north-west of Bordeaux City on the Right Bank of Garonne and Dordogne rivers around the town Bourg-sur-Gironde.
Our weekly offer this week is their Gaia Blend, their flagship red blend (predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec), the nose showing touches of eucalyptus, blackcurrant, plum, dark fruits, leather and slight cedar. Palate shows some oak influence, cloves, black fruit centric with some spice on the chewy finish. From the great 2022 vintage. Decant for a half hour. Calls for grilled or braised beef or lamb.
